Construcciones Ligeras y Aeronáuticas, S.L. (COLYAER) was set up on 11th November, 1995 by Martín Uhía Lima and José Manuel Coego Buján, two recreational pilots who had the ambition to build an amphibian aircraft with the following features:

- A side-by-side 2-seater aircraft with a double control stick making it ideal for teaching.
- A spacious cabin, comfortable and with good visibility and totally enclosed.
- Cruising and stall speeds of 200 Km/hour and 65 Km/hour respectively.
- An ultra-light aircraft.
- Built using composite materials to guarantee strong resistance against corrosion and fatigue, and require minimal maintenance.
- A range of over 1000 Km.
- Competitive price.
Due to the complexity of the project, instead of embarking on the amphibian aircraft immediately, they decided to develop 2 other new projects first: a land plane to study flight patterns and runway take-off and a seaplane to develop hydrodynamics.

The workforce consisted of a team of 5 people who put everything they had into the project until after 3 years they managed to fly the first prototype of the land plane, the MARTIN3. They achieved excellent results and were motivated to continue their work - a year later the second prototype was finished, with much overall improvement, more stability, better control, improved materials and engine specification, etc. This second prototype outperformed their flight expectations, and was highly acclaimed among fellow pilots and technicians.

The next step was to computerize the documentation to start work on the MARTIN 3, construct an industrial vessel especially adapted and prepare a third prototype that would refine some of the features of the land plane.

In 2003 the second part of the project began - the Seaplane GANNET S-100.

During one year they developed and tested different hydrodynamic models until they achieved good enough results to be able to carry out short take-offs and landings on water, maneuver well on water and cut through the waves with the V-shaped prow.

In 2004 the first prototype of the GANNET S-100 was finished - with the results they had been hoping for from the first moment.

The success of these projects put all doubts we might have had about the viability of the amphibian project to the back of our minds - we had now developed a plane to operate on a runway, the MARTIN 3, and a seaplane, the GANNET, to operate on water. Now all we had to do was give the GANNET a retractable landing gear that could be stored completely inside the hull of the plane. At the beginning of 2006, after a year and a half of designing and testing, the first FREEDOM prototype was finally ready and a few months later, due to popular demand, production began.

11 years on, after a lot of hard work and effort we have the aircraft that we dreamed of, a plane that operates safely and without limits on land, water and in the air, a plane that from the moment you take the controls, allows you to enjoy a complete and utter sense of FREEDOM.
